Indygenous designs are created by Steve Schubert, a vernacular artist living in Indianapolis. My focus is using Midwestern metropolises as inspiration to create localized, neighborhood- and city-specific designs. I draw upon vintage travel posters, pop art, and political propaganda, but above all try to incorporate a feeling that is true to our communities.
Indygenous looks at reviving Rustbelt cities, working class roots, signature architecture and the gritty elegance of our urban legacy. This is an exciting time as our once neglected city centers are transforming and redefining themselves. Indygenous is a reflection of, and partner with this process as the post-industrial Midwest looks forward.
Posters, postcards and greeting cards are available in Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Louisville stores, craft fairs or through my store on Etsy.
